Elections of March 1, 2020: CONAREG wants 0 loss of human lives
A few days from the double vote of March 1, 2020, many Guineans are afraid of violence and other acts. To avoid these facts, the National Coalition in Support of Reconciliation in Guinea (CONAREG) organised a round table on the dissemination of peace messages on Wednesday, 27 February 2020.
This meeting brought together at the OGDH headquarters in Conakry, the managers of the NGOs for the defense of human rights and the stakeholders of civil society.
« We are all Guineans. We know what we are living in the country since the announcement of the adoption of the new constitution by the President of the Republic. As you know, this raises a lot of challenges, controversy and opposition. We have two camps that eventually formed as a defense and opposition platform in relation to this proposed new constitution. This situation has led to a lot of human rights violations and deaths in Guinea. The numbers speak of 40 deaths, 37 of which are by bullet. This demonstrates how the situation is of concern for all Guineans. We are a few days from this double vote of March 1, 2020. CONAREG decided to call the peace actors so that together we could launch messages of harmony and peace », he explained.
According to Saikou Baldé, the objective is to obtain zero loss of human lives and zero material damage the day of the March 1 vote and the days that follow. « As a leading structure that brings together human rights organizations, victims and media associations, it is known that it was necessary to raise awareness among all Guineans of any confused trend, political edge, religious denomination and socio-professional category so that we could leave these elections with zero death and zero material damage », he wished.
As single individuals, leaders of NGOs and civil society actors present at this meeting have sent messages of peace and national unity.
